Our clubs’ next meeting is January 20, 2012 (this is a Friday) at 6:30 P.M. at the Legion in Skaneateles. We will be planning our calendar of events for 2012. If you have an idea for a dive/event, come on out and help plan. Hope to see everyone there!

New Year’s Day Dive

Mike Druce at National Aquatics has invited Auburn Skin Divers to join them for the 21st New Year’s Day Annual Frozen Fin Dive. Enjoy a dive (or throw snowballs at the people diving) and then warm up with coffee, hot cocoa, soup and snacks afterwards.

1:00 P.M. Mandana Marina, Skaneateles Lake, January 1, 2012.

ASDA Annual Pumpkin Dive

Saturday October 8th (Columbus Day Weekend)

9:00 a.m. until ?

PLACE: “The Woodlot” [Sue and Gary Wilson, HOSTS], Amerman Rd., Skaneateles, NY

* Welcome NYSDA Members – celebrating NYSDA’s 50th anniversary!

* Welcome FLUPA Members – celebrating and diving with us!

Plan on arriving in the morning and shore dive all day. Weather permitting we will try to do a couple of boat dives as well- The famous, “Log Jam” and “Stag Horn Point”. Bring all the dive gear and tanks you need for the day along with your own drinks and pumpkin to carve.

We will be carving pumpkins during the day this year to allow for our special program later on.

Lunch will be provided, soups, chili and hot dogs. If you’d like something else please feel welcome to bring it.

Dinner is catered by (John’s son) The Old Erie. Look forward to a meat/salad/ pasta/dessert buffet. We will be taking reservations for this and the cost (which covers both lunch and dinner, sorry…no splitting them up) is $20.00 pp. This money will be due NO LATER THAN Sept.30th. Prizes are awarded for pumpkin diving and the best carvings and for the 50/50 raffles.

Lunch will be served at approx. Noon-1:00 p.m. Dinner will begin at approx. 5:30 p.m.

After dinner our special program will include a tribute by John Tomandl for (deceased) past member Howard Trowbridge. Howard was a good friend to many Auburn Skin Divers, and NYSDA divers. John will share his memories and history that Howard had amoung the diving community.

We will also hear from our friends at FLUPA about continuing our mission with them. Then we’ll turn the floor over to our NYSDA friends who will wrap-up their 50th Anniversary. This will be a wonderful end to our (most of our) diving season.

Other diving notes: Diver sites around Skaneateles Lake are best reached from a boat but there are shore diver possibilities too. The State Boat Launch located on the West Shore (Route 41A) approximately 5 mile south of the village, offers easy access for boats, and plenty of parking for cars and trailers. Shore diving is possible in the village … Shallow but there is a nice wreck at the end of the pier in 5 to 8 feet of water.

Other Notes: This is a great weekend for your non-diving family to come out! The village of Skaneateles which is about a 10 min. ride from “The Woodlot” has great shops and we even have a local winery on the way into town, “Anyela’s”. We have antique shops in the area and if you’d like to just sit and look at the lake we’d love you to do that as well! Please feel welcome and do as much or as little as you’d like…in fact you might like this area so much you want to stay for the whole weekend! Check out The Village of Skaneateles, NY on the web.

A shore dive is planned but maybe a boat dive as well.

May 2011 Club Meeting

The may meeting to be held May 11, 2011 starting at 6:30 has been moved to the OLD ERIE restaurant on North St. in Weedsport, NY. There has been a scheduling conflict with the Rod and Gun Club. The speakers are the same and there will be a short business meeting before the talk. This should be an interesting meeting and should meld with our upcoming
NAS course.

May 2011 Club Meeting

Our MAY club Club meeting will be Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at the Weedsport Rod & Gun club. (directions below).
6:30 P.M. Short business meeting
6:45 P.M. Presentation by John Winbush and Steve Resler on “New York’s Interagency Committee on Cultural Resources”. This will be an interactive presentation on how to properly survey,mark and preserve sites that the club might find using our new side scan (goes hand in hand with our NAS course also)…please ask about that if interested. We have also invited the Clayton Divers and NYSDA to join us also.

Chili and light sandwiches will be served and BYO drinks.

Directions to the Weedsport Gun Club
Traveling north out of Weedsport on Rt 34, go across Thruway bridge and turn right onto Trombley Rd. follow to the end to the club. If you are coming by Thruway exit at exit 40 turn left on 34 then right onto Trombley Rd.
